For Students

Career advising is an individual experience at LMU Law. We take our time getting to know our students and their preferences in practice areas, geographic locations, and career goals. The Office of Career Services team includes attorneys with a wide variety of experiences in the legal profession. Equipped with knowledge gained by working as attorneys in different practice areas, our career advisors provide resources, employer outreach, and strategic career advice which affords each student the opportunity to develop, define, and achieve their career goals. Each year, we track, report, and evaluate the employment status of our graduating class. LMU Law alumni have a range of jobs that include law firms, public interest positions, and non‑traditional positions that require a law degree but are in fields outside of law. To learn more about our most recent employment report, visit this website’s ABA Required Disclosures page.

One key factor in the success of our law school is the ability to take our students as they are. Instead of modeling the Office of Career Services after another law school’s department, our office remains fluid and responsive to the needs, interests, and goals of our students. We meet with students individually to discuss career interests, talk through pathways, and refine application documents such as resumes and cover letters. By focusing on hands‑on student engagement, Career Services offers programming that aligns with the interests of our students. We offer resources on the traditional practice of law in the private and public sectors, work closely with the Director of Experiential Learning to expand externship site offerings, and guide students through complex application processes. Because a law degree can be utilized in so many different industries, the Office of Career Services works with students to pursue careers beyond traditional law practice. If our students find a non-traditional career path desirable, Career Services will find resources and employment information to assist the students in reaching their career goals. We look forward to assisting each of you throughout your academic careers.
